Valtra is developing electronic business
06.02.2000Valtra Inc. has carried out the Partek Group´s pilot e-business project. In January Valtra opened the electronic Internet services under the name "Meidän Valtramme" ("Team Valtra") to the domestic customers. During the first six weeks more than 2000 users registered in the Internet service.
"As it was estimated beforehand, most of the transactions were made in the field of used tractors, because Valtra has actively used the Internet in this area already couple of years", tells Mr. Arto Tiitinen, Valtra´s Marketing Director. "Finland is one of the world´s leaders in the amount of the Internet connections; already 37 % of domestic farmers use the Internet, and of Valtra´s customers - even a considerably higher amount."
The Valtra customers can, at this early stage, use the Internet in different convenient ways: e.g. order maintenance and additional equipment, introduce themselves with different Valtra products and make a credit application to a financing company. "One of our customers´ wishes has been the creation of an efficient country-wide market-place for used machines. Thus, our used-machine-market in the Internet has turned out to be an extremely popular and fast service point among many tractor-owners. At the same time, the inventory turnover of used machines has speeded up considerably", continues Mr. Tiitinen.
One of the goals of Valtra is to offer the customers the possibility of configurating their own tractor at home, according to the needs and budget of the farm. This system is already possible with one of the Valtra models.
New services ahead
The United States as well as the Nordic Countries are in the lead of the Internet development. Europe has now the possibility to take over the leadership in the wireless Internet connections, as the Nordic Countries are working as initiators in the field. Europe´s strength in this field lays in its multi-cultural understanding.
"The electronic services will improve Valtra´s competitive position. I am confident that the e-commerce, combined with the unique customer order system in the tractor field, will give us significant advantages in the future", describes Mr. Tiitinen, the Marketing Director of Valtra.
